In a clash of two grand slam winners, Serena Williams beat Belgium’s Justine Henin in three sets 6-4, 3-6, 6-2, to win the 12th Grand Slam of her career.
Williams outplayed her opponent to clinch the Australian Open trophy for the fifth time in her career. She was in top form, smashing 12 aces and hitting 32 winners, in the 2 hours 7 minute match.
Serena, who had earlier won the doubles title with sister Venus, played a magnificent first set before former World No 1 Justine Henin clawed her way back to take the second set. Serena Williams proved too good in the decisive third set, breaking serve several times to seal her victory.
