Sri Lanka's military has held a parade in the capital Colombo to commemorate its victory over the separatist Tamil Tiger rebels.
The fleeing rebel leadership was killed last May. The anniversary was postponed by a month because of heavy rains.
The rebels fought government forces for about three decades and nearly set up a separate state for the minority Tamils in the north and the east of the country.
The president of Sri Lanka and all members of the country's leadership attended the victory parade. But General Sarath Fonseka, the man who led the final battles against the rebels remained in a detention centre just a mile away.
Fonseka was detained in February on the charges of meddling with the country's politics and plotting to overthrow the government.
