Lawyers continue protest over Tamil

A group of advocates in Chennai are continuing their protest fast in prison after they were arrested for refusing to give up.

They are demanding the use of Tamil language to argue cases at the Madras High Court.

A group of lawyers also boycotted the Madras High Court to show support for thier colleagues in prison.

The chief justice of the Madras High Court M Y Iqbal, who was appointed recently has said Tamil can be used to argue cases.

But the lawyers say their protest is aimed at the state government which has not commented on their since the protest started two weeks ago.

The language used in the High Court must be in Tamil so that the general public can understand the pros and cons about the discussions made.

Much ado about nothing.. effect of politization of language, courtesy WCTCMY COMMENT : whether it is lawyers or Convicts, they should be allowed to discuss in any language they are comfortable with.Interpreter provision should be given for people who do not know the local language
