TN to introduce biometric ration cards

A biometric system for ration cards is being worked out by the Tamil Nadu Food Department to get rid of duplicate and forged ration cards.

The card will have photos, finger prints of all fingers and high resolution images of the iris of all persons listed in the card. A pattern recognition technique will be used to identify the iris, which is unique to every individual. As if now, the card carries only the photo of the family head.

The food department is also planning to work in tandem with the census department, to avoid duplication of work

The biometric ration cards will be out by June 2011.

It is seems a good proposal to avoid the fake cards. If they look into the matter of the weight and measurement frauds in the ration shops, will really help the poor people to get the right amount of their ration for the money they pay for.

the issue of cards through IRIS method has already been done in AP but of no use, there are several defects in integration, there are lakhs of duplicate entries, duplicate cards, bogus cards the help of contractor, thousands of cards with same number, thousands of cards without number, cards with mismatching photos, cards having photographs of national leaders, all these things could not be rectified for the last 5 years, genuine persons can be given bpl cards only if people are sincere and truth full, do you in A.P. 85% families have been issued BPL cards, which means only 15% are APL ie only employees. is it not ridiculous and horrible who has to be blamed, only ourselves because administration by politicians is oly vote bank administration, remedy it can be done only if we launch prosecution against ineligible person holding BPL card no technology can outwit the intelligence of our people to grab doles of the government. joke of the day there are cards issued in the name of Indira gandhi, Rahul gandhi, Nehru, with photos do u know.
