Remember the classic cover drive, the sweetly timed square cut, the straight drive with the ball off the middle of the bat, the audacious hook, the outswinger with three slips in a gully, the red ball and the spotless white clothing. Test cricket in its purest form. Then came the limited overs version with white balls, coloured clothing, cheeky singles, Yorkers, the reverse sweep, the chapathi shot, field restrictions and of course a result at the end of the day. Today if you love your long shapely nails forget the IPL. If you can’t stand the doosra or the free hit or the cheergirls, forget the IPL. If you don’t quite fancy movie stars owning teams or the mongoose bat forget the IPL. Is T20 cricket the biggest blockbuster today?
